Top Ten Tuesday: Book Hangover Cures (60)

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl. This meme was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!
In no particular order.

This Week's Theme:
Top Ten Book Hangover Cures

Food
Is there a care in the world that can't be solved by overindulging in your favorite snack?

Netflix
I tend to go on Netflix marathons when I'm in the middle of a book hangover and can't get myself to start a new book. On the other side, I don't really watch Netflix when I'm in the middle of a good book

 Re-read a book
I tend to re-read books I love to get myself out of my reading funk.

Obsess over the sequel
If the sequel is already out, I get my hands on that sucker as soon as possible. If it is not out, you can bet I have looked up everything I can about it, including teasers, excerpts, release date, and preordering it.

Sleep
If you're like me, a good book keeps me up way too late, so sleep is one of the first things on my agenda. Also, when you're asleep, you aren't thinking about how sad you are that you finished that amazing book.

Obsess over the author
I look up every single book the author has written and scour their blog and social media for any extra tidbits about the book that supplement every fan theory I have

Mourn
Sometimes a good cry is needed to mourn the loss of the book that has been your bestie for the past couple of days (let's be real though, it's only been 8 hours because you started the book this morning)

Reread my fave parts of the book that gave me the book hangover
This just helps to remind me why I loved the book and needed it in my life. It also helps you pick up on little details and foreshadowing to stuff that happens later

Tell Somebody the Whole Plot to the Book
Let's be real, the person you're talking to probably doesn't give a shit about the book you've just finished nor do they understand the hell you are in, but you still continue to tell that person the plot to every single book you love. And then you tell them they have to read it and the inevitably respond with "Why would I when you just told me what happens?" To which you lecture them on the amazingness of reading and how your synopsis doesn't live up to how good the book is.

Scream                      I have definitely screeched a little at the end of a book. Or sat there re reading the ending chanting "oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh." And then somebody asks what's wrong and you yell at them to leave you alone

New Releases: August 28

It's been three years since the Virgil County High School Massacre. Three years since my best friend, Sarah, was killed in a bathroom stall during the mass shooting. Everyone knows Sarah's story--that she died proclaiming her faith.

But it's not true.

I know because I was with her when she died. I didn't say anything then, and people got hurt because of it. Now Sarah's parents are publishing a book about her, so this might be my last chance to set the record straight . . . but I'm not the only survivor with a story to tell about what did--and didn't--happen that day.

Except Sarah's martyrdom is important to a lot of people, people who don't take kindly to what I'm trying to do. And the more I learn, the less certain I am about what's right. I don't know what will be worse: the guilt of staying silent or the consequences of speaking up . . .

Losing the Field (The Field Party #4) by Abbi Glines
Losing his dream, his ultimate plan, and his future- Nash Lee never expected to be facing a life without football. One wrong move and it had all changed. Going back to school for his senior year no longer appealed to him. He’d rather not leave his house. Walking back into Lawton High School, seeing pity in everyone’s eyes was just another reality in his nightmare.

Revenge wasn’t a pretty thing. Tallulah Liddell had found it was rather controlling. The way you looked at life changed completely when you clung to the ugly notion. But she’d done it anyway. From the last day of her junior year when Ryker Lee had made a fat joke about her and Nash laughed with him, she’d been driven by pain. It wasn’t like no one had made fun of her weight before. She was used to that. What had hurt so deeply was Nash’s laughter. He’d always been the one person to notice her, include her, not treat her differently. But that one moment had changed it all. From the time she walked out of the school building to the moment she returned for her senior year Tallulah had been determined to lose weight and finally be the size her peers considered acceptable.

What she wasn’t expecting on her return was to find a broken Nash Lee who no longer smiled, rarely spoke, and didn’t care about anything or anyone around him. He was just existing. But the pain in his eyes she understood all too well. He was alone. He no longer fit into the perfect package.

Nightblood (Frostblood #3) by Elly Blake

Ruby's world has changed more than she ever could have imagined. She's in love with a powerful Frost King. She's the heir to the Fire Throne. And she may be a Nightblood--the spawn of a vengeful deity hellbent on releasing his wraithlike Minax from their prison. Once freed, these beasts will roam the earth, devouring every last person until he or she is nothing but an empty husk. But Ruby is able to control the Minax to a degree, and now she, her beloved Arcus, and her friend Kai must find a way to bring Frostbloods and Firebloods--sworn enemies--together to make a stand against a foe more deadly than any they've faced.

In this heart-pounding finale of Elly Blake's gorgeously written and action-packed Frostblood Saga, the fate of Frostbloods, Firebloods, and all of humanity is at stake.

Dirty, Reckless Love (Bad Boys of Jackson Harbor #3) by Lexi Ryan
I’m in love with a man who tried to kill me. At least that’s what they tell me . . .

Six weeks ago, paramedics found me unconscious in my apartment. Beaten. Bruised. Hardly breathing. When I woke up, I couldn’t remember the last three years or anything about my life in Jackson Harbor. They tell me my fiancĂ©, Colton McKinley, is on the run for what he did to me. They tell me I’m safer if I stay away.

I don’t care if my memories ever come back. I want nothing to do with those missing years . . . until a sexy stranger with angry eyes shows up on my doorstep and demands I stop ignoring him.

Levi Jackson is my fiancĂ©’s best friend, but seeing him sparks something inside me. As the truth unravels in my mind, I know they’re wrong about Colton. My own secrets are far more dangerous than the man I was engaged to.

I return to Jackson Harbor to search for answers and find myself running from a faceless boogeyman and seeking refuge in Levi’s arms. And in his bed.

I can’t deny my feelings for Levi. But as the pile of lies between us grows, I realize that sometimes the truth can’t set us free. Sometimes, it’s the very thing that can destroy us.

Lady Smoke (Ash Princess #2) by Laura Sebastian
The sequel to the instant New York Times bestseller that was "made for fans of Victoria Aveyard and Sabaa Tahir" ( Bustle ), Lady Smoke is an epic new fantasy about a throne cruelly stolen and a girl who must fight to take it back for her people.

The Kaiser murdered Theodosia's mother, the Fire Queen, when Theo was only six. He took Theo's country and kept her prisoner, crowning her Ash Princess--a pet to toy with and humiliate for ten long years. That era has ended. The Kaiser thought his prisoner weak and defenseless. He didn't realize that a sharp mind is the deadliest weapon.

Theo no longer wears a crown of ashes. She has taken back her rightful title, and a hostage--Prinz Soren. But her people remain enslaved under the Kaiser's rule, and now she is thousands of miles away from them and her throne.

To get them back, she will need an army. Only, securing an army means she must trust her aunt, the dreaded pirate Dragonsbane. And according to Dragonsbane, an army can only be produced if Theo takes a husband. Something an Astrean Queen has never done.

Theo knows that freedom comes at a price, but she is determined to find a way to save her country without losing herself.
