But with two wounded Leviathan to treat, plus human and non-human refugees to help, they’ll have to settle for the nearest outpost, called the Sliver: a wild, dangerous warren of alien criminals. Zara’s skills from the Zone may be invaluable. However, Zara discovers that the secrets of the Sliver may have the power to turn the tide of the war they left behind—but in the wrong direction. Soon Zara will have to make a choice: stand against the ultimate evil or run from it. But she’s never walked away from a fight.

Dirty, Reckless Love (The Boys of Jackson Harbors #3) by Lexi Ryan
I’m in love with a man who tried to kill me. At least that’s what they tell me . . .

Six weeks ago, paramedics found me unconscious in my apartment. Beaten. Bruised. Hardly breathing. They tell me I’m safer if I stay away.

I don’t care if my memories ever come back. I want nothing to do with those missing years . . . until a sexy stranger with angry eyes shows up on my doorstep and demands I stop ignoring him.

Levi Jackson is my fiancĂ©’s best friend, but seeing him sparks something inside me. As the truth unravels in my mind, I know they’re wrong about Colton. My own secrets are far more dangerous than the man I was engaged to.

I return to Jackson Harbor to search for answers and find myself running from a faceless boogeyman and seeking refuge in Levi’s arms. And in his bed.

I can’t deny my feelings for Levi. But as the pile of lies between us grows, I realize that sometimes the truth can’t set us free. Sometimes, it’s the very thing that can destroy us.

I am in awe of Maas's ability to not only craft a world or a few characters, but to create numerous people with so many layers. There are no flat characters in her novels. Every chapter reveals more and more and I love it! Even the characters I am determined to hate are revealed to have completely different sides to them. This novel, Lysandra is the one who surprised and she has become one of my favorite.

Maas also manages to inspire a generation of young women to be strong, independent, and to fight for what you believe in. She teaches that your mistakes, your past, and all the bad things you've done don't define you and that you can still be a strong leader despite those things. Every book she writes is an intricate inspiration to live your life to the fullest, learn from your mistakes, and lead with honesty and truth.

I can't wait to continue this journey with Aelin and Rowan and the court of Terrasen. But I'm most excited to see what Empire of Storms has in store for Manon. I see something really interesting coming for her and am feeling a possible romance between her and Dorian??? Who knows *shrug* But either way I think she is a compelling character.

by Kristen Ciccarelli
Publication: September 25, 2018

From Goodreads:
The second book in Kristen Ciccarelli’s lush Iskari series.

Lavish, romantic, and dotted with magic, The Caged Queen is a new story in the world of The Last Namsara—one that fans of the first book will flock to.

Once there were two sisters born with a bond so strong that it forged them together forever. When they were angry, mirrors shattered, and when they were happy, flowers bloomed. It was a magic they cherished—until the day a terrible accident took Essie’s life and trapped her soul in this world.

Dax—the heir to Firgaard’s throne—was responsible for the accident. Roa swore to hate him forever. But eight years later he returned, begging for her help. He was determined to dethrone his cruel father, under whose oppressive reign Roa’s people had suffered. Roa made him a deal: she’d give him the army he needed if he made her queen.

Together with Dax and his sister, Asha, Roa and her people waged war and deposed a tyrant. But now Asha is on the run, hiding from the price on her head. And Roa is an outlander queen, far from home and married to her enemy. Worst of all: Dax’s promises go unfulfilled. Roa’s people continue to suffer.

Then a chance to right every wrong arises—an opportunity for Roa to rid herself of this enemy king and rescue her beloved sister. During the Reliquishing, when the spirits of the dead are said to return, Roa can reclaim her sister for good.

All she has to do is kill the king.

This novel starts out a little slow for me to the point where I put it down a few times so I could come back to it. However, the action really picks up and it's sets up some great character development for Celaena. Also, can I just say how much I love the new characters? Aedion and Rowan are a couple of my favorite and Manon is reluctantly growing on me. Maas's world continues to grow in intricacy and beauty. Her ability to transport readers to her world is magical and I almost believe I am there. Though I know the next book is leading Celaena back to Adarlan, I really hope to see the people of Mistward in following books!

A nice short little story where we get to see the compassionate side of Celaena again. Though quick and a good read, I'm not quite sure how it fits into the Throne of Glass anthology. So far, I've read through book 4, Queen of Shadows, and I haven't really seen the relevance. The other 4 novellas in the anthology (the ones originally released before the first book) all set the scene for Celeana's capture and how she got to that point. They set us up with who Celaena is and what her breaking points and passions are.

Though this book has yet to be shown to have little relevance to the series as a whole, I will take as much time with Celaena as I can because she is fierce and independent and yet has this ability to love wholly, which is one of her strengths and one of her weaknesses.
