Chasm (Glacian #2) by Stacey McEwan

Dawsyn’s fight to save the people of the Ledge is far from over in this thrilling and highly anticipated sequel to the bestselling, Ledge

Dawsyn’s miraculous escape from the Ledge was just the beginning. In the queens’ dungeon, Dawsyn awaits her execution while reliving the death of her lover, Ryon. There is no chance of mercy.

But hope finds her in the form of rescue by her village friends. Now on the run and struggling to tame her newly-gained and greatly unstable powers, Dawsyn's journey continues. Facing betrayal anew, she must learn patience and trust as she builds strength on all fronts, while she and her comrades recover and ready themselves for what's to come.

As they ascend the perilous mountain slopes to the Glacian kingdom once again in a desperate attempt to save those remaining on the Ledge, Dawsyn must battle wills as well as weapons, before discovering an entirely new evil awaiting her…

This sequel to Ledge continued to fall a little flat for me. The book seemed to drag and felt like not much happened over the course of 500 pages.

We have some flashback scenes/chapters in this book. Sometimes they provide a good backstory, but for the most part they just threw me for a loop because they felt poorly placed and some of them I felt did not add much to the story. And again with these chapter endings/divisions, they felt disjointed. And sometimes there would just be weird foreshadowing paragraphs. For example, there's a paragraph about Baltisse going off and coming back several days later to the camp in chaos but then it takes several chapters for Baltisse to return. I would have just rather kept reading rather than be told chaos would happen because it brings you out of the moment.

Dawsyn is not so flat in this book but I still could not connect much with her or Ryon. And I grew frustrated when a large part of this book is several of our characters together in camp, but we don't get many group scenes. And I feel like we were lacking in some important scenes, like ****SPOILERS*** Dawsyn telling Hector about everything that has happened. We see Dawsyn tell him that she will tell him later about the events that have happened thus far but the next scene we get of the two (and it's awhile before it happens) is them talking about Dawsyn's love life.

I am curious how McEwan will wrap up everything in the last book and there are a few things I am anxious to see if they are true.
