Top Ten Tuesday: Topics that Scare Me off Books (18)

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. This meme was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!
In no particular order except for the last one.

This Week's Theme:
Top Ten Five Topics That Make Me NOT Pick Up a Book
1. Zombies
I don't know why, but zombies make me laugh. They just seem really ridiculous.

2. Uninteresting covers.
I judge books by covers. If a cover doesn't catch my attention, I most likely won't read the description. And if I don't read the description, I won't pick up the book. Sometimes an amazing cover will lead to me reading the book if I'm not sure about the description

3. Time travel
It hurts my head. I can't keep everything straight.

4. Alternate realities
Pretty much the same reasons as #3

5. Most Non-fiction
There are some non-fiction books I read but for the most part, it's not my thing.

There really aren't that many things that instantly turn me off a book. So, these are the only ones I could think of.

Comments

  1. I like the concept of Zombies, but it's hard for me to love a zombie book. I think they might be my least favorite of all monster books, which is sad considering how much I really don't like werewolves.

Uninteresting covers do make me less likely to read a book. If a cover is boring on Netgalley for instance, I won't even request it. Yeah...turning down free books cause the cover sucks.

#3 & #4 If I need a speedsheet to keep track of what is going on in the book, then reading is no longer fun. I like time travel and alternate realities but they have to be done very well for me to enjoy the book.

I like non-fiction if it involves mythology, criminology, or psychology. I don't really give two-shits about xxx celebrity or why the government sucks.

  2. I've decided I love zombie books. Have you tried Rot & Ruin. It is a really fun one!

  3. Try Pivot Point by Kasie West if you want to dip your toes into #4. This one is very cleverly written and it was super easy to follow along with the different worlds.

    Great list!

  4. Don't worry, you're not the only one who judges books by their cover too.
Non-fiction books aren't really my thing either. D:
    Great list! (:
