The Good:
Books by: J.K. Rowling
Starring: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint
Obviously when you're talking best movie adaptations, Harry Potter is going to come up. It's a much love franchised that spanned ten years. I adore the world of Harry Potter and couldn't be any happier with these movies!

Directed by: Peter Jackson
Starring: Elijah Wood, Ian McClellan, Viggo Mortensen, Martin Freeman
These books are wonderful. But the movies are absolute masterpieces. They are so beautiful and captivating. I'm excited to see the rest of the Hobbit trilogy.

Starring: Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth
Jennifer Lawrence captures Katniss beautifully. Plus off-screen she's one of my favorite people ever. In her interviews, she's so down-to-earth and funny, unlike a lot of Hollywood actresses. And Catching Fire is looking to be just as good!
The Bad (Or those in the middle):

The reason I place this in the middle section is because the book was horrible to begin with. Kristen's Stewart's acting is awful. The script is vomit worthy, but what can you do when you had a sucky book to begin with? On second thought, maybe I should have put this in the last category.........

The movie is a wonderful movie. And the book is equally fun and exciting. But when you compare the two, The Princess and the Frog is only loosely based on E.D. Baker's The Frog Princess and that disappointed me.
The Ugly:
Book by: Madeleine L'Engle
Directed by: John Kent Harrison
Starring: Katie Stewart, Gregory Smith, David Dorfman
The took a much beloved children's book and made it a laughing stock. It was awful.
Book by: Christopher Paolini
Directed by: Stefan Fangmeier
Starring: Ed Speleers, Jeremy Irons, Selena Guillory
These books were difficult to get through, but (most of the time) it was worth it. This movie, like A Wrinkle in Time, is laughable. The ending was also set up for a sequel to be made, but not unfortunately, Eragon did not make enough money in theaters f or that to happen. My biggest problem with the film is that they took Arya, a strong, tough, hardened, extremely independent elf, and turned her into a simpering happy elf. Arya is not a happy person. In fact, more often than not, she's angry.

I felt this movie was more about romance and love triangles rather than plot lines and horcruxes. Ex: Harry likes Ginny, but Ginny is dating Dean. The books have these things more as a background than as a main plot.

I don't know how to explain this. The movie just wasn't nearly as captivating as the book.

I'm sure I don't have to explain this one to all of those who love the series. They took our much beloved book and changed, not small things, but everything. They aged-up the characters, they changed the villian, they changed locations, they even changed plot lines. We can only hope that Sea of Monsters is better, but don't get your hopes up.

I really must check out some of these movies, I cannot believe how many movie adaptations there have been or upcoming! It's fantastic for us readers :D

Good list, I love Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Perks of Being a Wallflower and Princess Bride as well.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely adore the Princess Bride, but haven't read the book either. I agree on the LotR series. Those movies were so great and made my list, too. I love the book A Wrinkle in Time, but have never seen the movie. I've heard it's horrible. Great list!
