This book is....wait for it.....addicting. *bum dum choo* Didn't think that was funny? Weel, I obviously thought it was amusing :P
Contrary to what the blurb leads you to believe, most of this book takes place at Loren and Lily's college, rather than on a boat. From the start of the book, you could tell that Loren was in love with Lily. And Lily loves Loren, she's just scared that she won't be able to stay faithful to him or that he'll disappoint her. Because here's the thing: Lily is a sex addict and Loren is an alcoholic. They have been faking a relationship for the past several years, but the truth is that Lily only has one-night stands and Loren's only relationship is with a bottle. And neither feels like they can ask the other to quit because that would be hypocritical. So they both live in fear that one day something will happen to the other.
These aren't your typical happy bubbling characters, nor the usual couple overcoming each other's dark pasts. Lily and Loren do love each other. But they don't realize how much of a mess their relationship is. Lily tries to hide her sex addiction from her family, lest she be labeled a slut. Loren is pushed by his controlling, abusive father to meet his unreachable goals. Both of them are about ready to fail school.
Addicted to You is full of surprises. At the beginning, there really is no supporting characters, because Lily and Loren don't have any friends and aren;t close to their families. But as the book went on, there were three supporting characters added to the mix that I loved. Rosie is Lily's sister and the one who drags her to family events. Lily and Rosie have a strange relationship. Rosie is often mad at Lily and Lily is always apologizing or avoiding Rosie, but they seem to be the closest of Lilt's three sisters. The other two supporting characters are people Lily meets at college and they are so amazing!
This book deals with lots of hard issues like addiction and abuse. But the plot line felt real and unforced. Definitely a must read!!!
