Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed

At twenty-two, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother’s death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life. With no experience or training, driven only by blind will, she would hike more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State — and she would do it alone.

Told with suspense and style, sparkling with warmth and humor, Wild powerfully captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddened, strengthened, and ultimately healed her.

I think I just got annoyed during Part 1 and took that through the whole rest of the book. Strayed tells the same story about she got her PCT guide book at least 3 times in the first part. I also got annoyed about how often Strayed would jump from scenes on the PCT and moments of her life leading up to hiking the PCT. I'm all for learning about Cheryl's past that led to her decision to hike the PCT, I think that this story would be incomplete without it. However, the skipping back and forth that happened in the first quarter of the book made me confused where I was in the trek through the PCT.

This quote from Chapter 13 was exquisite though:
