I don't feel like much happened in this book. And even though we spent most of the book in a different city state (because I think that's how the government of this world works, as city states), we didn't really get any world building. And once again, our characters fell flat and I didn't really connect with them much. I was also frustrated that even though the character spent pretty much the entire last half of the book with their ankles chained together, it didn't seem to affect their action at all or that anybody noticed it as they were walking around the city. The ending also felt very predictable. And Mak didn't make an appearance, but I'm hoping since the last book will take place mostly in Ilya (it seems) that he'll make an appearance. There's no way, she brought such a powerful Elite in as a character for him to not make another appearance.
I was never a fan of calling Fantasy book with love stories Romantasy. However, this series feels purely romantasy. We don't have much world building, the romantic plot is what takes precedent above all else, this book especially I don't feel like we got much more to the storyline besides the romance. So if any book is going to specifically be a Romantasy, I'd say this is it.
I do think I will read Fearless that releases in April because I want to see how Roberts concludes this story, but so far this series is a miss for me.
