Top Ten Tuesday: School Assignments (89)

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl. This meme was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!
In no particular order.

This Week's Theme:
Top Ten Books I Had to Read in School

I'm going to categorize these 10 Books Into Yes, No, and Maybe categories based on if I think you should read them too. This is just my opinion on if they are worth it or not. I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

  1. I agree with you on most of these. ANGELA'S ASHES was a good read for me, although overrated. GATSBY, though? I loathe that book! LOL

    Happy TTT!

    1. I don't remember having strong feelings about Gatsby.

However, Angela's Ashes I hated while reading. But then, I found out that anybody in McCourt's life that was interviewed stated that everything in the "memoir" was made up or wildly embellished, it cemented itself on my list of least favorite books ever lol

  2. I didn’t know McCourt made up so much of his childhood. That’s not good at all.

  3. I keeping thinking I should add John Updike to my reading pile. Loved The Fellowship of the Ring. Recently tried The Great Gatsby. I hated all the characters. I didn’t finish it.

  4. I consider myself pretty well read, and if I haven't read a classic I know about it, but I actually had never heard of Corrie Ten Boom until I came across that book at an estate sale last year (in my 30s!). Still haven't read it, but the little bit I skimmed to decide if I wanted to buy it was fascinating. Neat to see it on this list.

I can no longer see Angela's Ashes without flashing to the Finer Things Club end tag on The Office...
"Did you even read it? Who's the main character?"
"Angela." (off various Looks) "Nope... The ashes."

This is my sum total knowledge of the book and sounds like that's an OK way to be.
