Fated Throne (Zodiac Academy #6) by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti

Fate has torn us apart and sometimes I believe the stars have given up on us altogether.

Without my sister, the world seems darker than ever before and the shadows loom thicker, rising up to answer the call of the Shadow Princess and changing the face of Solaria for good.

Now Lionel Acrux has the strength to make a move for the throne, I’m not sure how much time we have left to stop him.

Our only hope is to find the Imperial Star before he does. We made the sacrifice the stars called for and we’re paying the price for that decision so it can’t be for nothing. But with the stars turning against us at every move, and the last light in the world seeming to fade, I’m afraid we’re almost out of time. Hope is a dangerous thing. It’s the key to us fighting on. But it could be what destroys us in the end.

One thing is for certain, I won’t stop until I have been reunited with my other half and together we will fight to take our crowns.

A war is coming.

The throne is calling for a new monarch. And someone must answer its call.

Agony ripped through my side as a nymph got close enough to drive its probed fingers into my flesh and I roared a challenge as I swung towards it.

Just when I was starting to like this series after books 4 and 5, the series takes a serious nose dive. The plot is being dragged too much and they're are so many time jumps and inconsistencies that make the read so much less enjoyable.

Inconsistencies that bothered me: Xavier mentioned that he survived Hell Week and the Reckoning is coming soon, implying that the Reckoning is not the end of Hell Week. And then Max's secret is revealed to the world and Max's dad is surprised that Max knows, but we literally have a flashback in one of the earlier books of Max's dad telling him about his mother's death when he was younger. There are more that I can't pull off the top of my head, but very frustrating.

The time jumps are frustrating because they're not well written. They're very sudden and jarring, especially when the scene preceding ends suddenly leaving you wanting more. Everything also feels very repetitive and I don't feel like our characters are any closer to defeating the big bad villain after 6 books. I decided to stop reading the series and looked up plot synopsis for the next few books, and again just feels like the same thing over and over again. In fact, I couldn't even finish the book 8 synopsis because it felt so boring.

Overall, I do not recommend reading this series. The writing is bad, there are so many inconsistencies, there are weird time jumps, and bad character development. I am disappointed because I've heard so much about this series on BookTok, but it falls flat in every possible way.
