Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood #1) by J. R. Ward [Re-Read]

The only purebred vampire left on the planet and the leader of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who killed his parents centuries ago.

But when his most trusted fighter is killed -- orphaning a half-breed daughter unaware of her heritage or her fate -- Wrath must put down his dagger and usher the beautiful female into another world.

Racked by a restlessness in her body that wasn’t there before, Beth Randall is helpless against the dangerously sexy man who comes to her at night with shadows in his eyes. His tales of the Brotherhood and blood frighten her. Yet his touch ignites a dawning new hunger one that threatens to consume them both…

I've read this book many times. I enjoy the story line a lot. Beth is a strong female lead who invites the reader to learn more into the world as vampires as she does. Wrath is a great morally grey lead who existed before that term was being thrown around on social media. The biggest drawback to this book is there are a lot of dated acronyms that Ward uses that I either haven't heard in forever or that I didn't know the meaning. Is this entirely her fault? No, the book is almost 20 years old. But I do believe that the publisher should be working harder during edits to help limit stuff that would easily date a book like that.

Dark Lover is an exciting first book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series that I think most readers will enjoy. I'm also looking forward to the show soon to be coming from Amazon!
