This year has brought several books that just fell flat for me and this duology is one of them. I like the concept but the world building and character development wasn't there. There wasn't enough development of the world and the magic system to really fall in love with the world. Dark Breaks the Dawn was decent for plot. However, it all fell apart in book two Bright Burns the Night. There was never any real explanation for why Lorcan did what he did and how he did. Not enough fleshing out of the relationship between Lorcan and Evelayn. I'm all for a enemies to lovers and dark romance/kidnap storylines but this one was not doing it for me. No delving into motivations to understand why what happened did.
This duology could have been fun, but did not deliver as expected.
