All the King's Men (Kingdome of Lies & Truth #2) by Empress Chang

I married him for safety.
He married me for love.
That is where our problems lay.

He thought he knew me. He didn’t.

Our love was never a fairy tale. Our stories were dark and twisted and morally gray, with survival being our motive.

That meant watching out for myself first and last. But being Marcello’s wife is harder than I thought. In our story, I am the villain, while he played the knight, my protector.

*All The King’s Men is the second book in the Kingdom of Lies & Truths series and can be read as a standalone. It is a dark new adult mafia romance that includes scenes that may be disturbing to some. Mention of illegal pet trade, mention of murder & rape, graphic torture scene, strong sexual scenes, strong adult language and talks of blood and scenes with blood). Recommended for readers 18+.

This book is 94 pages of wtf is happening. The description says that it can be read as a standalone, but there was a lot of gaps in the story that I was missing important information. I don't know if that's because one needs to read the first book, or if the author simply did not flesh this story out enough. I still have no idea how the two marrying protected the FMC. I cannot tell you a single thing about either of the main characters personalities. I have no idea how the structure of the mafia works or the history of our two characters. There also was some age discrepancies (the MMC being 3 years older than the FMC but later being 1 year older), but these may have been fixed in the final copy. Unfortunately, I found this book didn't provide a good story line or even one that the reader can understand.
