April 1
Crossing the Line (Pushing the Limits #1.5) by Katie McGarry
Katie McGarry captivated readers with her “riveting, emotional”* Young Adult debut, Pushing the Limits. In this gripping novella, she tells the story of Lila and Lincoln, who discover that sometimes it’s worth crossing the line for love…

Lila McCormick, Echo's best friend from Pushing the Limits, first met Lincoln Turner when tragedy struck both their lives. But she never expected their surprise encounter would lead to two years of exchanging letters—or that she’d fall for the boy she’s only seen once. Their relationship is a secret, but Lila feels closer to Lincoln than anyone else. Until she finds out that he lied to her about the one thing she depended on him for the most.

Hurting Lila is the last thing Lincoln wanted. For two years, her letters have been the only thing getting him through the day. Admitting his feelings would cross a line he’s never dared breach before. But Lincoln will do whatever it takes to fix his mistakes, earn Lila’s forgiveness—and finally win a chance to be with the girl he loves.

My Ex From Hell (Blooming Goddess #1) by Tellulah Darling
Sixteen-year-old Sophie Bloom wishes she’d been taught the following:

a) Bad boy’s presence (TrOuBlE) + teen girl’s brain (DraMa) = TrAuMa (Highly unstable and very volatile.)
b) The Genus Greekulum Godissimus is notable for three traits: 1) awesome abilities, 2) grudges, and 3) hook-ups, break-ups, and in-fighting that puts cable to shame.

Prior to the Halloween dance, Sophie figures her worst problems involve adolescent theatrics, bitchy yoga girls, and being on probation at her boarding school for mouthy behaviour. Then she meets bad boy Kai and gets the kiss that rocks her world.

Literally.

This breath stealing lip lock reawakens Sophie’s true identity: Persephone, Goddess of Spring. She’s key to saving humanity in the war between the Underworld and Olympus, target numero uno of Hades and Zeus, and totally screwed.

Plus there’s also the little issue that Sophie’s last memory as Persephone was just before someone tried to murder her.

Big picture: master her powers, get her memories back, defeat Persephone’s would be assassin, and save the world. Also, sneak into the Underworld to retrieve stolen property, battle the minions of Hades and Zeus, outwit psycho nymphs, slay a dragon, rescue a classmate, keep from getting her butt expelled from the one place designed to keep her safe …

… and stop kissing Kai, Prince of the Underworld.

My Ex From Hell is a romantic comedy/Greek mythology smackdown. Romeo and Juliet had it easy.

Lexi Ryan just ran away to join the circus, but not on purpose.

A music-obsessed, slightly snarky New York City girl, Lexi is on her own. After making a huge mistake--and facing a terrible tragedy--Lexi has no choice but to track down her long-absent mother. Rumor has it that Lexi's mom is somewhere in Florida with a traveling circus.

When Lexi arrives at her new, three-ring reality, her mom isn't there . . . but her destiny might be. Surrounded by tigers, elephants, and trapeze artists, Lexi finds some surprising friends and an even more surprising chance at true love. She even lucks into a spot as the circus's fortune teller, reading tarot cards and making predictions.

But then Lexi's ex-best friend from home shows up, and suddenly it's Lexi's own future that's thrown into question.

With humor, wisdom, and a dazzlingly fresh voice, this debut reminds us of the magic of circus tents, city lights, first kisses, and the importance of an excellent playlist.

The Collector (Dante Walker #1) by Victoria Scott
He makes good girls...bad.

Dante Walker is flippin’ awesome, and he knows it. His good looks, killer charm, and stellar confidence have made him one of hell’s best—a soul collector. His job is simple: weed through humanity and label those round rears with a big red good or bad stamp. Old Saint Nick gets the good guys, and he gets the fun ones. Bag-and-tag.

Sealing souls is nothing personal. Dante’s an equal-opportunity collector and doesn't want it any other way. But he’ll have to adjust, because Boss Man has given him a new assignment:

Collect Charlie Cooper’s soul within ten days.

Dante doesn't know why Boss Man wants Charlie, nor does he care. This assignment means only one thing to him, and that’s a permanent ticket out of hell. But after Dante meets the quirky Nerd Alert chick he’s come to collect, he realizes this assignment will test his abilities as a collector…and uncover emotions deeply buried.

Dark Triumph (His Fair Assassin #2) by Robin LaFevers
Sybella arrives at the convent’s doorstep half mad with grief and despair. Those that serve Death are only too happy to offer her refuge—but at a price. Naturally skilled in both the arts of death and seduction, the convent views Sybella as one of their most dangerous weapons.

But those assassin’s skills are little comfort when the convent returns her to a life that nearly drove her mad. Her father’s rage and brutality are terrifying, and her brother’s love is equally monstrous. And while Sybella is a weapon of justice wrought by the god of Death himself, He must give her a reason to live. When she discovers an unexpected ally imprisoned in the dungeons, will a daughter of Death find something other than vengeance to live for?

This heart-pounding sequel to Grave Mercy serves betrayal, treachery, and danger in equal measure, bringing readers back to fifteenth century Brittany and will keep them on the edge of their seats.

Rise (Eve #3) by Anna Carey
How far will you go when you have nothing left to lose?

When she lost her soul mate, Caleb, Eve felt like her world had ended. Trapped in the palace, forced to play the part of the happy, patriotic princess of The New America—and the blushing bride of her father's top adviser—Eve's whole life is a lie. The only thing that keeps her going is Caleb's memory, and the revolution he started.

Now, Eve is taking over where Caleb left off. With the help of Moss, an undercover subversive in the King's court, she plots to take down The New America, beginning with the capital, the City of Sand. Will Eve be able to bring about a new, free world when she's called upon to perform the ultimate act of rebellion—killing her father?

In Rise, Eve must choose who to leave behind, who to save, and who to fight as Anna Carey's epic tale of romance and sacrifice in the chilling dystopia of The New America comes to a stunning conclusion.

The Goddess Test meets Dexter in an edgy, compelling debut about one teen’s quest for revenge… no matter how far it takes her.

And she brings down Justice upon them.

For the first time, the Furies are quiet in her head around a guy. But does this mean that Cory’s finally found someone who she can trust, or are there greater factors at work? As Cory’s mind becomes a battlefield, with the Furies fighting for control, Cory will have to put everything on the line to hold on to what she’s worked so hard to build.

A gritty, atmospheric coming of age tale set in 1980s New York City.

Seventeen-year-old Cat is living every teenager’s dream: she has her own apartment on the Lower East Side and at night she’s club kid royalty, guarding the velvet rope at some of the hottest clubs in the city. The night with its crazy, frenetic, high-inducing energy—the pulsing beat of the music, the radiant, joyful people and those seductive white lines that can ease all pain—is when Cat truly lives. But her daytime, when real life occurs, is more nightmare than dream. Having spent years suffering her mother’s emotional and physical abuse, and abandoned by her father, Cat is terrified and alone—unable to connect to anyone or anything. But when someone comes along who makes her want to truly live, she’ll need to summon the courage to confront her demons and take control of a life already spinning dangerously out of control.

Both poignant and raw, White Lines is a gripping tale and the reader won’t want to look away.

Excerpt:

I open my mouth to say something comforting, but I’m unsure of what. In this moment, I’m reminded that I know little about him. Other than the sarcasm and desire to understand nothing of my queendom, he hasn’t allowed me past the surface. But then, I have my own walls, hiding things I’d never want him or any other to know. And I understand that need to hide them. You can’t trust anyone. “Caben…” I start, but still can’t find the right words. He lowers his hand from his face, never taking his eyes off the glinting water top. “You’re right,” he finally says. “Let’s find the access to Lilly’s section.” A hollow pang hits my chest, and I’m not sure why. Something in his voice sounds lost, broken. I imagine the gears around my heart spinning faster, trying to keep up with my racing heart. When he sidesteps me, I reach out and grab his arm. “Caben, I didn’t mean—” “It’s fine, Kal,” he snaps. “We have work to do.” “No, I’ve said something to offend you.” I drop my hand, but keep close to him, not allowing him to leave my side. Goddess, trying to understand the male brain is harder than anything in protector training. I’ve heard people say that you have to tip-toe around a woman’s emotions, but a man’s ego is every bit as fragile, if not more so. He releases a heavy breath through his nose and walks back to the pool. He sits down along the edge and rolls up his pants, then slips off his boots. “I honestly don’t think Bax or his goons will be returning tonight.” He sinks his bare feet into the water and sighs. Glancing at the back of the cave, I plant my hands on my hips. We don’t have time for indulgencies, but the prince is still my charge. If it were my empress, I’d give her anything she’d ask for. Allow her as much time as she needed to collect herself. I have to watch over his mental state as well as protect him, so I try to push the pending need to find Lilly aside and sit down next to him. “Here,” he says, turning his hand out near my crossed feet. “You have to feel this.” A smile tugs at the corner of my mouth. “I can remove my own—” “Have you never been pampered a day in your life?” he asks, lifting an eyebrow. “I know that the Nactue are fierce and will put a hurt on any man for touching them. But try to relax.” “Is that the rumor in Perinya?” “What?” I bite my lip, suddenly regretting my blurt. “Nothing. Never mind.” From the corner of my eye, I see his lips pucker into a pinched smile, as if he’s trying not to. “Ah,” he says, like he’s made some great universal connection. “Well, there are many whisperings about the Nactue. Some I dare not repeat for fear I’d leave here missing a limb, but that’s one, yes.” He takes my booted foot and begins to unlace it. “I’ve heard that the empress’s protectors are untouchable—forbidden to give themselves to men. And that they’ll snap a man’s neck just for making an advance.” My mouth drops open. Appalled, I counter, “That’s not true.” “All right,” he says, as if he hasn’t just insulted my very existence. “It’s only rumors. Things men jaw about in pubs. The unattainable woman is a fantasy, Kal. Don’t be offended.” “Unattainable?” I grit my teeth, trying to maintain my composure. “Tell me, prince. Do men in your country just go around bedding every woman they can in order to keep them compliant?” I shake my head. “If their fantasy is a woman that would have nothing to do with them, it seems to me it’s their way of feeding their egos after being rejected.” His eyes widen. “No! How does your brain come up with these—” He bites off his words, his lips thin as he presses them together. “Look, it was a joke.” I nod, many times. “Another joke. I’m glad that our hard work and sacrifice is amusing to the men of Perinya.” Caben lets out another sigh and slowly pulls off my boot. His warm fingers skim my calf as he inches up my pant leg. “Just stick your foot in,” he says, then adds lower, “while I stick mine in my mouth.” Unexpectedly, I laugh. “At least it’s now clean,” I say. “Would you like some help getting it to your face?”

Wait For You (Wait For You #1) by J. Lynn

Some things are worth waiting for…

Traveling thousands of miles from home to enter college is the only way nineteen-year-old Avery Morgansten can escape what happened at the Halloween party five years ago—an event that forever changed her life. All she needs to do is make it to her classes on time, make sure the bracelet on her left wrist stays in place, not draw any attention to herself, and maybe—please God—make a few friends, because surely that would be a nice change of pace. The one thing she didn’t need and never planned on was capturing the attention of the one guy who could shatter the precarious future she’s building for herself.

Some things are worth experiencing…

Cameron Hamilton is six feet and three inches of swoon-worthy hotness, complete with a pair of striking blue eyes and a remarkable ability to make her want things she believed were irrevocably stolen from her. She knows she needs to stay away from him, but Cam is freaking everywhere, with his charm, his witty banter, and that damn dimple that’s just so… so lickable. Getting involved with him is dangerous, but when ignoring the simmering tension that sparks whenever they are around each other becomes impossible, he brings out a side of her she never knew existed.

Some things should never be kept quiet…

But when Avery starts receiving threatening emails and phone calls forcing her to face a past she wants silenced, she has no other choice but to acknowledge that someone is refusing to allow her to let go of that night when everything changed. When the devastating truth comes out, will she resurface this time with one less scar? And can Cam be there to help her or will he be dragged down with her?

And some things are worth fighting for…

Avery is late for her first day of class when the most embarrassing thing happens. She runs into somebody. And not just anybody; the hottest guy on campus with the most intriguing blue eyes, Cam. And he's immediately captivated by her: this shy, admittedly a little socially awkward, girl who has obviously been through some sort of trauma.

Cam also happens to live across the hall from her. And he has a pet turtle named Raphael. Seriously, how awesome is that? Cam is kind of annoying, but in a really adorable way. I liked him from the beginning. He goes from total stranger to best friend to boyfriend over the course of the book and I loved that they were friends before they started dating. And that he waited until she was ready. Cam helped Avery work through a lot of stuff she needed to work through.

Avery was great. From the beginning, you could tell she'd been through some terrible things before she came away to college. I loved trying to guess what had happened. She also started getting these emails and phone calls from an unknown person and it kept you wondering who it was.

All in all, Wait For You was amazing and I can't wait for the companion novel Be With Me!

It took me a while to get into The Kings of Charleston, but once I did, I was addicted. Casper is not your typical heiress. She could do without the clothes and the parties and the expensive cars as long as she still has her horses. The Kentucky farm and the horses are all that really matter. So when her father decides to move the family to Charleston, South Carolina, Casper doesn't know what to do. She's leaving everything she's ever known behind in Lexington, Kentucky.

When Casper meets Cal, sparks fly. I enjoyed them as a couple. The romance didn't feel forced or fast. Casper's incessant Twilight references did get on my nerve (those of you who read my review of Twilight on Monday know why).

Mystery, intrigue, and tension can be found in plentiful amounts in this book. From the moment I saw the name, I wanted to know what Kythera was. I was right there with Casper as she investigated every clue she could find. I loved it!

Sophie is spunky. I thoroughly enjoyed her straightforwardness and sarcastic humor. She kept everything light, fun, and entertaining. Sophie is also really plucky and tries to take everything in stride. She's extremely brave and very protective of those she loves, particularly her best friends Theo and Hannah. Sophie learns that she is Persephone, but Persephone is not her. She's her own person, a human, with a different personality than Persephone the goddess had. She struggles to accept her power and identity while recovering Persephone's memories.

Theo is Prometheus. Yep, the very same Titan that gave fire to humans. He also happens to be Sophie's gay best friend. He is supportive but secretive. Theo kept a lot of things from Sophie that were important.

Hannah, oh, Hannah. She's a science geek. A science geek that looks like a Swedish model. She's the perfect best friend for Sophie. She, like Sophie, is sarcastic, but she's more logical. I loved her random comments about animals and food chains.

Kai is the son of Hades and the love of Persephone's life. Sophie and Kai don't recognize each other when they first meet, but their kiss is what unlocks some of Persephone's memories. The romance between the two doesn't feel forced or rushed. It was perfect, with both of them struggling to accept that Sophie is/isn't Persephone.

My Ex From Hell is an entertaining action/romantic comedy book. Be sure to grab a copy when it hits shelves on Monday!

Picture Perfect Book Blitz: Excerpt + Giveaway

On the outside, Devin Thompson looks like he has it all - charm, good looks, and a scholarship every art major at Sanhope would kill for. But on the inside, he’s dying. His family is falling apart, his grades are dropping, and his girlfriend just dumped him for his hockey team rival, who also happens to be his younger brother. Not to mention he hasn’t been able to snap a decent picture for his senior portfolio in weeks. But when a sultry redhead with fire burning in her eyes struts across his path, he thinks he may have finally found his muse…

Angela “Angel” Davis learned early on that life never offers any hand-outs. And she’s getting burned out. Between juggling her nights as an exotic dancer at a men’s private club and struggling to keep up with her elementary education courses during the day, she barely has time to think of the future. Not that she wants to. The future implies planning, and Angel is no stranger to broken dreams. Then she meets Devin, a man who’s so wrong for her, yet she can’t seem to stay away from.

When Devin offers to take her on as his private model, Angel finds the cash hard to refuse. Each has something the other desperately needs, and neither one is willing to walk away. As their professional relationship spirals out of control into something more, they learn sometimes the wrong person can be the only right person, and that life - and people - are rarely picture perfect.

Twilight (Twilight #1) by Stephanie Meyer

Isabella Swan's move to Forks, a small, perpetually rainy town in Washington, could have been the most boring move she ever made. But once she meets the mysterious and alluring Edward Cullen, Isabella's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn. Up until now, Edward has managed to keep his vampire identity a secret in the small community he lives in, but now nobody is safe, especially Isabella, the person Edward holds most dear. The lovers find themselves balanced precariously on the point of a knife-between desire and danger.Deeply romantic and extraordinarily suspenseful, Twilight captures the struggle between defying our instincts and satisfying our desires. This is a love story with bite.

Grab your pitchforks and some friends, we're going hunting tonight. No, not for vampires. For Stephenie Meyer. I am seriously astounded at how this became a New York Time bestseller. There is no plot, suspense, or action in the first seventy-five percent of the book. Also, even though everybody knows going in that Edward is vampire, there should still be some suspense in Bella trying to figure out his species. But there is none! She figures it out almost immediately.

And don't get me started on Bella. First, she self-exiles herself to Forks, Washington, to live with her father, yet she acts like she is going to be tortured when she arrives. And then her father is trying to have a relationship with her and she shuts him down at every turn. She is always crying, complaining, or whining. And she cries over small things, like Edward not being at school, but she doesn't over things that she would have a legitimate excuse for crying, like almost being hit by a van or almost being raped. From the moment she sees Edward in the lunch room, Bella is obsessed with him. She gets upset when he's not at school, even though he was a complete jerk to her. In her own words (p67):
I was consumed by the mystery that Edward presented. And more than a little obsessed with Edward himself.
And she sees no problem with that, even claiming to love him. Honey, that's lust and a lack of self-worth, not love. She even makes herself sound like a stalker (p69)
No one else was as aware of Edward as I always was. No one else watched him the way I did.
Bella becomes angry and depressed when Edward won't tell her what he really is, because she knows he's not human. She's only known him for a month or two at this point. AND they've rarely spoken. So, why would he tell her? They're not even friends, let alone close enough for him to tell her about his undeadness. Bella also has major self-esteem issues, even though almost every guy in town falls for the minute they see her. And when she returns to Phoenix to escape James, a vampire set on eating her, she becomes a vegetable. Admittedly, she does do a courageous thing in trying to save her mother, thinking that James is going to harm her, but then she is glad that she's going to die. Seriously?? Who would be glad to die a painful death at thee hands of a vampire? Bella (unfortunately) survives, though. And once again I hate her as she becomes a needy child while at the hospital.

I'm pretty sure Edward is bi-polar. That or he's on his period because I couldn't keep up with the mood swings. One minute he's telling Bella to stay away from him, that's it's too dangerous for them to be friends, the next he's offering her a ride to Seattle and asking her to sit with him at lunch. He's obsessed with Bella and is extremely over protective. (p328)
"I don't want you to think I'm naturally a tyrant."
Too late.

Edward and Bella's relationship isn't built on love, it's built on lust and obsession. Take these quotes for example: (P174)
"I followed you to Port Angeles," he admitted . . . I wondered if it should bother me that he was following me; instead, I felt a strange surge of pleasure.
Of course it should bother you that he's following you! Talk about obsessive. I don't understand what she sees in him! And then there's this quote: (p292)
"You spied on me?" But somehow I couldn't infuse my voice with proper outrage. I was flattered.
She's flattered that Edward is STALKING her?!?!?! WHAT?!?! "I'm flattered to have a stalker," said no sane person ever. And Edward basically tells her throughout the book that all he wants to do is kill her. That's all he thinks about. He wants to kill her. And she doesn't care because she's in love with him.

I do have to say that the end (and only) fight scene was exciting and I did enjoy that. But does that really count when the rest of the book was despicable?

Please, please, spare yourself and don't read this book. It's completely horrendous and in the words of Stephen King, "Harry Potter is about confronting fears, finding inner strength, and doing what is right in the face of adversity. Twilight is about how important it is to have a boyfriend." So go grab a Harry Potter book, and just burn Twilight.

Perfect Scoundrels (Heist Society #3) by Ally Carter

Katarina Bishop and W.W. Hale the fifth were born to lead completely different lives: Kat comes from a long, proud line of loveable criminal masterminds, while Hale is the scion of one of the most seemingly perfect dynasties in the world. If their families have one thing in common, it's that they both know how to stay under the radar while getting--or stealing--whatever they want. No matter the risk, the Bishops can always be counted on, but in Hale's family, all bets are off when money is on the line. When Hale unexpectedly inherits his grandmother's billion dollar corporation, he quickly learns that there's no place for Kat and their old heists in his new role. But Kat won't let him go that easily, especially after she gets tipped off that his grandmother's will might have been altered in an elaborate con to steal the company's fortune. So instead of being the heir--this time, Hale might be the mark. Forced to keep a level head as she and her crew fight for one of their own, Kat comes up with an ambitious and far-reaching plan that only the Bishop family would dare attempt. To pull it off, Kat is prepared to do the impossible, but first, she has to decide if she's willing to save her boyfriend's company if it means losing the boy.

This book kept me on edge the whole time. I love Ally Carter. The only disappointing thing was that we didn't find out what Hale's first name is :( But we did learn what his family calls him. I'd like to here the story behind that one.

This time, it's Hale being conned. Kat is torn between telling him about her suspicions or keeping in the and prevent him from being hurt if her suspicions are unfounded. Hale ends up finding out and is extremely mad, but he soon realizes that he is too close to this case. So Kat and the rest of the crew must con the conman.

Perfect Scoundrels was a lot more suspenseful than the first two. I honestly thought they weren't going to be able to pull it off. And Chapter 43 was a killer chapter. I was so stunned!!!

Perfect Scoundrels is an amazing book for people who love mystery and intrigue. Be sure to grab a copy!

Everbound (Everneath #2) by Brodi Ashton

Nikki Beckett could only watch as her boyfriend, Jack, sacrificed himself to save her, taking her place in the Tunnels of the Everneath for eternity — a debt that should’ve been hers. She’s living a borrowed life, and she doesn’t know what to do with the guilt. And every night Jack appears in her dreams, lost and confused and wasting away.

Desperate for answers, Nikki turns to Cole, the immortal bad boy who wants to make her his queen — and the one person least likely to help. But his heart has been touched by everything about Nikki, and he agrees to assist her in the only way he can: by taking her to the Everneath himself.

Nikki and Cole descend into the Everneath, only to discover that their journey will be more difficult than they’d anticipated — and more deadly. But Nikki vows to stop at nothing to save Jack — even if it means making an incredible sacrifice of her own.

In this enthralling sequel to Everneath, Brodi Ashton tests the bonds of destiny and explores the lengths we’ll go to for the ones we love.

I've hated Cole from the beginning. He was just too obsessed with getting Nikki back. That isn't love. But just when I'm starting to like him, he goes and the jerkiest jerk move possible and I'm back to hating his guts. There he was being nice to Nikki, and I was thinking that maybe, just maybe, he's actually in love Nikki. And then he did a small jerk thing, and was thinking "Okay, maybe he has a plausible explanation." And then he comes back and shows me his treachery and I'm sittting there thinking:
Yeah, it was bad enough that I pulled out Obi Wan Kenobi. You know it's bad when that happens.

Nikki is an extremely broken person. But she also very strong. She doesn't give up on Jack and does everything she can to save him. I love her and Jack's relationship. They are so cute together and so perfect for each other. <3 Once again though, I wish there was more of Nikki and her younger brother. I loved the twist with the Queen of the Everneath. I didn't see that coming.

Everybody needs to read this series!! Especially who love mythology. AND January 2014 needs to get here faster so I can read the conclusion!!!!!!!!

Imposter (Slide #2) by Jill Hathaway
What if a killer took control of you?

Vee Bell’s gift (or curse) of “sliding”—slipping into the mind of another person and experiencing life, briefly, through his or her eyes—has been somewhat under control since she unwillingly witnessed the horrific deaths of her classmates six months ago.

But just as things are getting back to normal, Vee has a very bizarre experience: she loses consciousness and finds herself in a deserted area, at the edge of a cliff, with the broken body of the boy who took advantage of her on the rocks below.

As Vee finds herself in stranger and stranger situations with no memory of getting there, she begins to suspect that someone she knows has the ability to slide—and that this “slider” is using Vee to exact revenge on his or her enemies.

In this full-length novel from Chris Crutcher, his first since the best-selling Deadline, the ultimate bully and the ultimate good guy tangle during Period 8.

Paul "the Bomb" Baum tells the truth. No matter what. It was something he learned at Sunday School. But telling the truth can cause problems, and not minor ones. And as Paulie discovers, finding the truth can be even more problematic. Period 8 is supposed to be that one period in high school where the truth can shine, a safe haven. Only what Paulie and Hannah (his ex-girlfriend, unfortunately) and his other classmates don't know is that the ultimate bully, the ultimate liar, is in their midst.

Terrifying, thought-provoking, and original, this novel combines all the qualities of a great thriller with the controversy, ethics, and raw emotion of a classic Crutcher story.

Everneath (Everneath #1) by Brodi Ashton

Last spring, Nikki Beckett vanished, sucked into an underworld known as the Everneath. Now she's returned--to her old life, her family, her boyfriend--before she's banished back to the underworld . . . this time forever. She has six months before the Everneath comes to claim her, six months for good-byes she can't find the words for, six months to find redemption, if it exists.

Nikki longs to spend these precious months forgetting the Everneath and trying to reconnect with her boyfriend, Jack, the person most devastated by her disappearance--and the one person she loves more than anything. But there's just one problem: Cole, the smoldering immortal who enticed her to the Everneath in the first place, has followed Nikki home. Cole wants to take over the throne in the underworld and is convinced Nikki is the key to making it happen. And he'll do whatever it takes to bring her back, this time as his queen.

As Nikki's time on the Surface draws to a close and her relationships begin slipping from her grasp, she is forced to make the hardest decision of her life: find a way to cheat fate and remain on the Surface with Jack or return to the Everneath and become Cole's queen.

Everneath is a captivating story of love, loss, and immortality from debut author Brodi Ashton.

I honestly don't know why I put off reading this for so long. My sister read it and raved at me about how good it was, but I still pushed off reading it. I only started reading because it was on sale on Nook and I had also won a signed edition of its sequel, Everbound. And now I'm wondering what the heck I was thinking waiting so long. I loved Everneath! Ashton's retelling of the Persephone myth is truly unique.

Nikki is strong and not the least bit self-obsessed; just how I like my heroines! She has survived the Feed, which means she can become queen of the Everneath, but she chooses to return to her hometown on the surface, despite the fact that she can't remember anything except a boy's face. That was one thing I was convinced of reading the book, Nikki's memory loss. I didn't feel like she actually forgot everything; it seemed like she remembered an awful lot.

Cole is an Everliving, an immortal who needs to feed off the emotions of others to survive. I didn't really like him. He was so obsessed with Nikki and was always trying to manipulate her. But Jack, Nikki's boyfriend form before the Feed, I loved him. He sweet and patient and obviously hurting from Nikki's sudden departure six months ago and her subsequent return and personality change. He was so realistic.

I do wish Nikki's younger brother Tommy and her former best friend Jules had bigger roles in the story. They seem like very interesting characters.

If you love mythology, romance, and suspense, Everneath is definitely the book for you!

Trust in Me Excerpt:
She walked inside and spun slowly, inhaling deeply as she moved. The fresh paint and varnish smelled like hope. She perused the room, touching ever surface, trying to convince herself that this was real. This time her dream was going to come true.
As thoughts of Hank crept back into her mind, she lifted her leg onto the bar and began to stretch, not even conscious of what she was doing.
She felt foolish for believing he loved her, even after he’d started to hit her. He was the only man she ever kissed. The only man to ever touch her. She felt cheated thinking about it.
Roni felt unsettled and out of sorts. She needed something to bring her out of this funk. Something to prove that she was still desirable, that this divorce wasn’t an ending, but rather, a beginning.
Roni stretched a bit more as her thoughts ran rampant in her head. She heard the front door shut, then the lock being turned. She walked quietly to the door of her studio and saw Rich turning from the front door.
She walked a little more loudly out into the hallway, causing him to start and turn.
“Shit, Roni,” Rich said with a quick laugh. “I didn’t know you were in here. I thought I was alone. When did you get…?” Before he could finish his sentence, Roni catapulted into his arms, her lips fusing onto his.
Rich stumbled back a step, taken off guard, before he caught himself and began to return her kiss.
She could tell he was surprised, but she had to hand it to him, he went with it.
